- We had a great day volunteering with Duwamish Alive! We teamed up with the Showalter students at the start of the event, where we got to make and spread "deer poop" seed balls and draw out our river stories for a local artist. We then moved on to join the rest of the volunteers, where we laid burlap and mulched native plants. The students established their own assembly lines for passing mulch buckets and asked lots of questions about what we were doing and how it was helping the river. The organizers of the event were wonderful about answering questions, and we all came away with a great understanding of how and why we preserve our natural spaces!
- Suggestions:
- Next time, trip leaders should advocate for the students early on. Our volunteer work started out a little slow. Once the organizers saw what our many hands could accomplish, the work picked up - which the students loved!
