Team:
South Shore K-8
Date:
Saturday, June 11, 2016
Trip Types:
Beach Walk, Bird Watching, Hiking
Plan:
Will meet at school at 9 and proceed up I5 to Hwy 20 and on to the park. At that time we will do an overview of the park and plans for the day which will include hiking and beach walks. We will discuss the old growth forest and role it plays in the ecology of the area and hope to do some tide pooling if the tides cooperate. We will depart around 230 and return to Seattle via the Clinton ferry returning around 430.
Report:
Spent the day beachcombing and hiking at the state park. We also has some time available to let the kids play Frisbee and run around on a large grassy area. We integrated discussions on leave no trace, bird identification and the importance of preserving wild places as well as types of life that live in the intertidal zone and their importance.
Suggestions:
Only suggestion would be to plan to meet the kids earlier to maximize the available time. We planned to meet the kids at 9 but didn't get rolling until 9:40 and also had some traffic delays. Deception was a bit of a drive and it would have been nicer to have a little more time.
