Team:
South Shore K-8
Date:
Saturday, February 27, 2016
Trip Types:
Hiking, Snow Sledding
Plan:
We'll meet up at South Shore K-8 School for introductions at 7:30, gear check and preview of the day before heading up to the Nordic Center/Snoqualmie Pass. We'll rent skis and boots before having a beginner's lesson, then have lunch. After lunch we will spend a couple hours on the trail. We'll have lunch and head back home.
Report:
The trip went well. The weather was nice for our Gold Creek Hike, with intermittent sun for their snowball fights and snowman building contests. We ate lunch in the vans at Hyak Snow Park, then were able to sled for a couple hours. The kids said this was their favorite part. We even had time on the way back to visit Snoqualmie Falls.
Suggestions:
We had some behavioral issues with some of the boys, especially when in the vans. The can with only boys in it had a problem being appropriate and respectful. We had to move one boy that we think was the catalyst to the issue to another car, where he behaved much better. This car also happened to be a mix of boys and girls, so in the future I would recommend not having cars with only one gender in it. It may not solve all the problems, but it seemed to help in this case.
